I used to take art history classes and became particularly inspired by Impressionism, especially through Claude Monet’s paintings such as “Nymphéas” (1904) and “Le Jardin de l'artiste à Giverny” (1900) , as well as Vincent van Gogh’s infamous Starry Night. From there, I looked for additional references within that style, leaning a bit more toward Van Gogh, focusing on natural scenes filled with flowers, grass, and richly colored rural landscapes.
At first, I planned to focus only on the flower field and the sky, but halfway through the project I realized it wouldn’t be enough to carry the whole video. So I decided to introduce a second environment, which ended up turning out even better than I expected.
When modeling, I decided to divide the environment into two main areas for the video : one being a wide flower field, and the other a more intimate space featuring a large willow tree surrounded by flowers, along with a small pond filled with water lilies.
For the flower field, I created a variety of flowers with different shapes and colors, then used the particle hair system to scatter them across the terrain. By controlling their placement with vertex groups and adjusting density through weight painting, I was able to achieve a more natural, organic-looking field.
For the shading, I aimed for colors that felt as flat as possible, almost like brush strokes, so I could have full control over them later during compositing.
The following node setups highlight the selected color palettes, along with the use of a Shader to RGB node connected to a Principled BSDF. I also incorporated noise textures to introduce a brushstroke-like effect and control that painterly feel.
