3D Animations

This folder is dedicated to the development stages of selected 3D animation projects, tracing their evolution from early storyboards to the completed visuals. It highlights the key steps of the creative pipeline, offering an inside look at how ideas are translated into fully realized animated sequences.

Originally developed as part of a school animation assignment, this project was conceived as a lighthearted narrative centered on two friends spending time together in a pastry shop run by quirky alien cat characters. What begins as a simple, playful encounter gradually unfolds into unforseen shenanigans.

ENVIRONMENT

BETA VERSION

At first, the setting was supposed to be a greenhouse-style pastry shop, based on a model I had made earlier and just needed to clean up a bit. But pretty quickly, I realized it wouldn’t work for the final scene since everything was glass and I needed stained walls for the story. So I ended up redesigning the pastry shop from scratch. On top of that, the environment was originally meant to be just grass and flowers, but it felt way too empty, so I reworked the whole thing about ten days before the deadline. Definitely one of the most intense modeling speedruns I’ve ever done.

CITY DESIGN

CITY DESIGN

Most of the buildings were basically big cubes pushed and shaped with bevels, loop cuts, and extrusions along normals, with very little subdivision. Since the pastry interior was already packed with detail, I had to keep everything optimized so the viewport wouldn’t get too laggy.

I was really short on time, so I had to work smart. I modeled four or five base buildings, made them look different by tweaking the textures, then duplicated them to build the scene faster. After that, I could focus on all the fun details, trees, plants, flowers, grass, benches, street lamps, traffic lights, all of that. Honestly, it was super enjoyable, and I’m really glad I got to learn more about building modeling along the way.

PASTRY DESIGN

from moodboard to reality

At first, I planned to use Mixamo to speed things up with pre-made animations, especially for walk cycles, but I quickly realized I didn’t have the time to set up new rigs. So I stuck with my usual rigs and animated everything by hand.

That’s where the storyboard became absolutely crucial. It helped me lock in the rhythm, cut each shot to the right length, and jump straight into animating without having to rethink every scene from scratch. I’m also thankful the project wasn’t overly animation-heavy aside from the walk cycles and the moment where the characters pull out the chairs, most of the movement was subtle stuff like head tilts, hand gestures, nods, and the little flying elements.
